Specifications
The Coolerguys K7M cooler is an altered double fan cooler which is designed
specifically with the K7M in mind. It has two 21CFM, 50mm fans. The kit came
pre-assembles with thermal grease and Y-cable included. As you can see from
the picture, one fan is moved towards the center of the heatsink and slightly
higher than the other. This allows the cooler to avoid the power supply connector
while delivering adequate cooling for overclocking.
Installation
Installation is extremely easy. The heatsink has two retaining clips with extra
long tabs for quick release and assembly. I used the heatsink on my 7IX (will
someone please send me another board!!!). The 7IX had a problem with certain
heatsinks, though not as bad as the K7M. Surprisingly, the Coolerguys Cooler
will fit in the 7IX without the fan moved. It is just slim enough to get by
the power supply connector. So, if you own a 7IX, you have your choice as to
leave the fan where its at or move it into a more even placement.
Performance
The cooling the fans and heatsink delivered was pretty good considering the
size of the cooler. I was at about 5 degrees below stock cooling after an hour
of run time. This was with the fans placed in the default positions pictured
below. One thing I did notice was that the motherboard monitor was reading wacked
out RPM's for the fans. Only one sensor was used on the Y-Cable, so I'm not
sure what the problem was. It may be specific to my system.
Final Comments
The best thing about this product is the price. It is very hard
to find a good double fan Athlon cooler for around twenty bucks. The price cannot
be beat. If you are considering some heavy overclocking you would really want
to step up to something like an Alpha or Global Win. However, if you are in
need of a cheap K7M cooler or simply a decent duel fan cooler for any Athlon
system, I would recommend the Coolerguys K7M Cooler.
Thanks to Coolerguys
for supplying me the K7M Cooler.
