The Card Cooler XT

Supplied By: CardCooler.com - $34

Introduction

The Card Cooler XT is a simple device which consists of two 120mm fans. It is designed to cool all expansion cards as well as adding some extra cooling to the CPU. When overclocking by way of bus, this cooler is very handy in keeping the PCI devices cool and is also a good source for extra cooling of an overclocked video card. The fans are HUGE and include grills and 4-pin Molex connectors.

Installation

Easy enough. Just screw the connecting brackets on top of two expansion slot screws. The brackets span five slots so some adjustment is available. However, make sure you have enough room in your case for these fans. If you've got a low sitting power supply, it may not fit. However, there is another version available which places the fans horizontal instead of vertical. This may be a solution to some with small cases.

Performance

I was rather pleased with the performance of the fans. They are not loud. However, I'm not one to bitch about my fans being too loud. Just turn up the damn speakers if it bothers you that much! Overall system temperature was down 5 degrees Fahrenheit after running successive loops of 3DMark for 45 minutes. CPU temperature also dropped on average by a degree. I already had an Alpha P7125 on the Athlon so someone with smaller fans should get more cooling on the CPU.

Conclusion

At $34 it may seem a bit pricey but The Card Cooler will throw in slot cooler with any purchase over $25. So in my opinion, it's a fair deal for the cooling you get. Overall, a nice idea and well constructed. Thanx to TCC for supplying the unit.
